The study investigates the behaviors and motivations of exceptional donors in Romania—individuals distinguished by their sustained and active philanthropic involvement. The analysis offers an in-depth analysis of the psychological, social, and contextual factors that underpin recurring donations and donor loyalty. It is based on 16 semi-structured interviews with donors supporting diverse organizations such as Dăruiește Viață, Narada, Recorder, SOS Children’s Villages, and UNICEF. The study integrates insights from relevant literature and provides practical recommendations for NGOs on how to engage with this donor segment.

This study contributes to the growing body of knowledge on philanthropy in Romania by highlighting the role of exceptional donors in strengthening civil society and addressing social issues where the state has limited capacity to intervene.
