The School for Sustainable Development aims to strengthen local actors' strategic thinking, understanding of the SDGs, and analytical capacity in terms of local community sustainability. There is no sustainability without the capacity for critical and strategic thinking and analytic skills, aspects that are often lacking in local communities in Romania. By forming a learning community of local actors–the Community Foresight Network (CFN)–the project generates a sustainable mechanism for sustainable development at a national level. CFN members will access inspirational learning experiences related to the SDGs, local and global challenges, foresight methodologies, research, and advocacy.

The aim of the project is to strengthen the strategic thinking and analytical capacity of local actors in order to enhance local community sustainability. It is impossible to have sustainable communities without local actors who think strategically, have minimal research skills (to be able to analyze sustainability challenges and the effectiveness of local public policy proposals), and build impactful cross-sectoral partnerships. Thus, through the School for Sustainable Development, we aim to:

  • develop a learning community made up of local actors who are willing to learn and strengthen their strategic thinking.
  • build a community of local leaders and organizations that come from different parts of the country and who can learn by sharing visionary and inspirational practices.
  • develop an experiential learning process that will strengthen the community of local actors and generate a continuous learning mechanism in the field of local sustainability.
  • develop appropriate learning spaces and a curriculum based on experiential education that reinforces strategic thinking, understanding of sustainable development, and research skills.
  • generate proposals for concrete interventions to address local sustainability challenges.
