Download publicationThis study examines donation behaviours among the adult urban population in Romania, exploring key aspects such as frequency, preferred methods, sources of information, and underlying motivations behind donations.
The study finds that 52% of the adult urban population made at least one donation in 2023, while 46% of Romanians donate on a recurring basis, favouring low-effort methods like online payments (30%), SMS texts (25%), and cash (25%). Trust in the organization, perceived donation effectiveness, and emotional resonance are shown to be the primary motivators behind charitable giving. The publication also provides insight into the reasons why some individuals do not donate, revealing that the level of education and lack of engagement opportunities are more decisive than income levels.
This report is a valuable source for nonprofit organizations, fundraising professionals, and to anyone committed to advancing a culture of giving in Romania.
This study is part of the project “Fundraising – from money to donor communities” carried out by the Association for Community Relations in partnership with the Făgăraș Research Institute, with the financial support of Active Citizens Fund – Romania, a program funded by Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway through the EEA Grants 2014-2021.
