Research is a planned process that can be exciting when planned well. The workshop aims to introduce participants to research thinking and project design in social sciences. Participants may choose to focus on topics of their choice.

The workshop is designed in a practical way to accompany participants in making decisions for designing a research project. We will discuss each step of the way and the multiple options available when we engage with certain social phenomena.

Some of the more specific steps we will cover include:

• identifying a powerful empirical puzzle or theory gap and placing it in the border social context,
• designing the research question,
• how do we select the literature we engage with,
• how do we select the theories we rely on,
• how do we choose the methodology and research methods for collecting data.

Finally, we will discuss how we move from a research project to a research paper.

Stefan Cibian, Ph. D., will conduct the workshop in August 2024 as part of the Făgăraș Summer School.
