Our colleague Magdalena Drăgan Ph.D. presented at the 8th Central European Conference in Regional Science International Symposium the results of the study on digital inclusion and exclusion in Romania carried out by the Făgăraș Research Institute for the EOS Foundation.
The digital divide in Romania is analyzed from different perspectives – access to internet infrastructure and digital skills between rural and urban environments, between categories of people (young adults and elderly people, people with low or high levels of education, people from vulnerable groups, etc.) and at a regional level. Also, the study looks at the ecosystem formed by civil society organizations involved in informal digital education. The financial effort of these organizations is quantified. Between 2015 and 2022, civil society organizations invested over 11 million Euros in facilitating access to the digital environment (especially for people from disadvantaged groups), and the actors involved in these actions are numerous.
The main conclusion of the study is that collaboration between civil society organizations is to be improved and that a unified strategic framework is needed to streamline efforts and establish standard directions for action.
