While forgiveness is often understood in transactional terms—the overcoming of vindictive passions is due to changes from the part of the wrongdoer that the victim cannot ignore—in this webinar I discuss one category of forgiveness that does not depend on any type of action from the part of the wrongdoer. This category does not presuppose actions from the part of the wrongdoer, and so nothing is offered in exchange for forgiveness, not even the request from the part of the wrongdoer to be forgiven. There are at least three sub-categories here: self-healing forgiveness, Socratic forgiveness, and the forgiveness of the cross.
The discussion will be applied in a historical context: the trauma caused by communist persecution in Romania.
