Messages From the Future – Intergenerational Meeting at Țara Făgărașului Museum

On October 20th 2024, the “Messages from the Future” exhibition, the last event in the Share Location: Făgăraș Resistance project, was opened in the Dungeon Tower of the Țara Făgărașului Museum. The exhibition brought to the forefront the works made by children and young people who participated in the “Țara Bunicilor” (Grandparents’ Land) workshop, an interactive workshop about communism and resistance.

The exhibition was mounted in a special setting as part of a larger installment on women of anti-communist resistance – the main theme of the Share Location project. The drawings and letters on display reflected both compassion and a strong sense of connection between generations. Children drew pictures of separated families or confiscated property, while teenagers and young people wrote messages of gratitude and solidarity for those who fought for freedom and fundamental rights. The soundtrack of the event, with the voices of young girls recording messages for the resistance fighters, brought an emotional dimension to the exhibition.

The opening was an opportunity to encourage intergenerational dialogue, a moment to reflect on the lessons learned and the importance of preserving collective memory. Participants had the opportunity to share their experiences and discuss the impact of the project.

“Messages from the Future” demonstrated the power of education and art to convey valuable messages about freedom, resistance, and human dignity. The exhibition was coordinated by Ioana Hașu-Georgiev, the initiator of the project, who emphasized the importance of alternative methods to presenting history and the need to preserve collective memory.
