History through Art – a toolkit for teachers

After several months of exploration together with students, teachers, and artists, we are launching History through Art, a set of tools designed to bring creative methods into the classroom. The aim is to offer History teachers fresh resources that make lessons more interactive and engaging.

What you will find in this toolkit:

  • Theatre installations adapted for teenagers, with suggestions for role-play suitable for younger students as well;
  • Text and video tutorials on how AI can be used to analyze debates (in class or within the school community);
  • Boardgame ideas and challenges that invite you to create games together with your students;
  • Ways to transform old photographs collected by students into artistic experiences;
  • Drawing and comic strips integrated into History lessons as tools for exploration and expression.

The toolkit was created as part of the Caravana Memoriei (June–November 2025) project, an initiative of VOICE – the Center for Oral History and Art-Based Education (Făgăraș Research Institute). It is designed to support teachers in working with students on:

  • understanding abstract concepts,
  • developing emotional memory and critical thinking,
  • communication and public speaking skills.

Toolkit created by:

  • Ioana Hașu, researcher and curator of recent memory
  • Georgi Georgiev, historian and author of theatre installations on historical themes

With contributions from:

  • Delia Lazăr, psychotherapist (Positive Psychotherapy and Oneiric Drawing)
  • Alexandru Rusu, IT expert and teacher
  • Ana-Maria Lemnaru, comic book author and Visual Arts teacher

Project co-funded by AFCN.
