Get to know your community of place!

Online (Zoom), August 7, 2020, 10.00-12.00 (Romanian time; in English)

We all live in our bubble, surrounded virtually or physically by people who share our interests and reconfirm our views of the world. This narrow understanding of the constituency we are a part of is manifested in all those contexts in which structural divides in our societies burst out: we’re shocked of election results, we’re scandalized on how things we consider normal are fought against by others, we cannot conceive how stuff we take for granted just isn’t there for many of the others and what does this imply for how we relate to our lives.

In this webinar we will discuss and reflect on how to get to know your community of place, be this the place you reside in (your city, your village, etc.) or the place you are dedicating your work to. We will explore the power and drawbacks of statistical data, the insightfulness and anxieties of field work, the importance of listening but, even more, of asking the right questions, and the value of genuine unobtrusive curiosity.
