Navigating Challenging Fieldwork: A workshop to prepare for challenging contexts
This workshop aims to equip researchers with the essential knowledge, skills, and strategies to conduct effective fieldwork in challenging environments. Focusing on planning, preparing, and executing field research in diverse settings—such as conflict or post-conflict zones, remote and inaccessible locations, culturally sensitive areas, and closed authoritarian political environments—participants will engage in hands-on training to enhance their fieldwork capabilities.
Key workshop components include:
- Risk Assessment and Minimization: Learn how to identify potential risks and implement strategies to minimize them.
- Common Methods: Gain proficiency in adapting various field research methods applicable to challenging environments.
- Data Management: Develop skills in managing data effectively, ensuring accuracy and integrity.
By the end of the workshop, participants will acquire valuable insights into the practical, ethical, and methodological aspects of navigating and conducting research in demanding field settings. This workshop is tailored for researchers, Ph.D. candidates, and fieldworkers who plan to conduct research in such environments.
The workshop is held by Ștefan Morar, Ph.D., in the framework of the Făgăraș Summer School 2024. The workshop will take place on August 9, 2024, 16.30 – 19.30.
