The imposing basilica on Vatican Hill that dominates the large square designed by Bernini and looks towards the eternal city of Rome is one of the most recognizable architectural structures in the world. In this lecture, we shall explore the history of the two churches of Saint Peter’s built on one of the holiest places in the Christian tradition, their architectural characteristics, as well as some of the famous artworks created by equally celebrated artists that can be admired inside and outside the church.
