How to Write a Literature Review

Through examples and activities, the workshop will present the key steps in writing a literature review, and not just making a list of summaries.

Laura Visan Ph.D.

Laura is currently teaching in the Urban Studies Program of the Innis College/ University of Toronto and in the Arts, Culture, and Media Department at the University of Toronto Scarborough. She earned her Ph.D. in Communication from York University with a thesis on the civic participation practices of the Romanian immigrants in Toronto and continued to investigate the process of social capital formation through civic participation. In her most recent publication, Fundraising Strategies during Pandemic Challenges (Routledge, 2022), Laura documents the fundraising campaign developed by a community foundation in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Having grown up in Romania, Laura has also written about the famous culture artefacts of the Nicolae Ceauşescu era, focusing on the 1970s and 1980s. Her research interests also include urban communication and city branding, with a focus on the former communist countries of Eastern Europe.

Passionate about experiential learning and the use of new technologies in course development, Laura has earned a Learning Design Certificate from the School of Continuing Studies – University of Toronto (2021).
