Development theories and Spirituality

Online (Zoom), August 13, 2021, 15.30-17.00 (Romanian time, in English)

he course proposes a dive into development theories to understand what is the place of spirituality in this field, and how scholars of postdevelopment studies understand the role of spirituality in the future of development.

Spirituality has been disregarded by the development field. Researches have shown that the replacement of traditional manifestations including spirituality with modernity has provoked changes in all fields of humanity, including global development. During this webinar, we will see how spirituality can impact community development in modern and multicultural societies and how the use of some spiritual practices in institutions can make a difference in the life of the participants. Case studies will be presented. None of the presented cases has spirituality as their main activity, although they apply it in their methodologies and approaches through their own activities.

It is important to mention that spirituality is not the same as religion. In this context it is defined as the relationship that one has with oneself and everything else, it is a search for the meaning of life and the raising of awareness towards the world, which promotes interconnection.
