Cyber-security and privacy are issues of increasing concern in today’s digital world.
Whereas perfect security does not exist, there are many tools and practices that can answer to someone’s specific security needs. To choose among them, it is important to first understand what are the assets that you would need to protect and what are the most common threats that you might encounter.
This all depends on what is your status, for example, if you are a journalist, a human-rights activist, or simply a citizen making frequent use of the internet technology.
In this webinar we will discuss the case of an academic researcher.
The talk will start at a general level by highlighting the differences between privacy and security, and the common threats to both. After that we will present the main questions for evaluating the risks on your data assets. Further, we will briefly explain cryptography – an important, though not unique, part of cyber-security and privacy. Finally, we will present a list of best practices, tools and further resources at your hand that can help you protect your data.
