Bonn, May 22-23, 2025 – Făgăraș Research Institute participated at the EADI Jubilee Event, hosted by the European Association of Development Research and Training Institutes (EADI) at the Gustav Stresemann Institut in Bonn, Germany.
The conference, titled “Development in Crisis: Reflecting on the Past, Looking to the Future”, marks EADI’s 50th anniversary and brings together scholars, practitioners, and experts from around the world to discuss the future of international development amidst complex and intersecting global crises.
A Global Dialogue on the Future of Development
Over the course of two days, the event creates space for critical reflection on the role of development studies in a rapidly changing world. Key topics on the agenda include:
- Democratic backsliding and geopolitical tensions,
- The impact of interconnected global crises on the Global South,
- The role of civil society in navigating future transitions,
- Reimagining development theory and academic practice.
Highlights of the program include a roundtable discussion on the future of development studies and a series of parallel panels tackling emerging and urgent issues in the field.
A Milestone Event with Academic and Social Significance
The EADI Jubilee Event is more than a celebration of five decades of institutional work—it is a collective moment of reflection for the global development research community. As the world faces mounting challenges, from climate change to growing inequalities and political transformation, the need for renewed perspectives and interdisciplinary cooperation is more pressing than ever.
Ștefan Cibian: “Given the multiple ways in which the world is changing today, we must rethink the core concepts and practices of international development in order to continue to have generosity, be it authentic or instrumentalized, as a key feature of the future of the international system.” Stefan Cibian
